Biking Czech Republic
20-21 July 2023, near Štítary, 33.8km
Camping Vranovská plaz 560kč [R465]
A fabulous 30-plus km done to an enormous and very busy holiday park on the Vranov dam on the Thaya river. Cottages, camping, restaurants, potravinys.
Although we did some walking up hills too steep to cycle, we seem to have had more downs than ups. And just the kind of downs I love most: gentle enough that you can contain your speed and feel free to admire the scenery while gravity does its work.
It was also cloudy and therefore relatively cool. When the threatened rain finally came, we found ourselves dripping outside an inn, the Hostinec U Blahoudků, built in the village of Dešov in 1841. With an elderly proprietor, vaulted ceilings of red brick, and tasty pizza.
Back on the bikes, we soon dried out despite a long segment through trees arching over the road and still dripping from the storm.

We're still at the holiday park.

We finally managed to submit our Romanian visa application, sort of. The online form gave us a choice of applying through Pretoria only. We have emailed to ask how we switch to Bratislava.

The joys of ordering in a Czech restaurant...
At today's restaurant, beer is the first item on the menu. Charl reckons the Czechs cannot legitimately brag about being the biggest consumers of beer per capita when the head takes up a third of the mug!
Then Google Translate can decide to switch from Czech to Russian and propose a meal labeled "Fried floodplains".
