Merry Guest House 140,000LAK
There are
32 temples in Luang Prabang; we chose to visit one only, the shimmering Xieng
Thong which overlooks the Mekong at the north end of town. Xieng Thong was completed
in 1560 by the Lao King Setthathirath and until 1975 Lao kings were crowned
here. The temple complex consists of several buildings, each extraordinary in its
own right. Glass mosaics and gold leaf and relief carvings and sweeping roofs –
all quite lovely on a hot day. We cycled and lunched and strolled and dined. In
between I had an hour long massage at the Red Cross on another good day.
