WhatsApp: No connectivity so far in Liberia, not even under the MTN tree mentioned yesterday. Took us five hours to do 16km today. Mainly because the roads are in a bit of a state - described as OK by locals - but also because Charl's cassette and cradle have both given up the ghost. We will work out tomorrow what is best to do. Will probably need to arrange a lift to bigger Ganta 53km away. Will send road videos separately. As you will see from one of the photos, we attract quite a crowd when we stop in a village.
Forgot to mention... Last night, walking away from where we had eaten an omelette dinner, suddenly a couple of locals started yelling at us to stand still. We realised only then that we were the only two people in motion in the entire town. Everyone else had come to a standstill while the flag was being lowered. Like an art house film where all but the main characters are frozen for a moment... We'll keep an ear open for the whistle in future.
