We had a campsite in mind for tonight, but ended changing plans and direction and are spending the night in a small (drum roll) hotel. It is located in a strange little village with a church but no shops. It has only four rooms, but a large common room, dining room and kitchen which guests can use. Such luxury. Loving it.
We changed our plans because the campsite was accessible either via a cycle route or route 51. The cycle route, after just a few kms, turned into almost virgin levee with just a narrow grassy track to ride. While this was OK for the first few kms, it became tiring and tedious very quickly and just too slow for the planned 60km. We had been told route 51 no longer banned bikes, so took a look at it. As we arrived at the intersection with 51, eight trucks in close formation passed us, moving fast, their tyres right on the edge of the narrow road. Way too stressful!
So... we took instead to the back roads, none going anywhere near the campsite, through small towns with impossible names and extraordinary bus stops and excellent ice-cream! A pleasant day ending in comfort.
