The vast distances that separate the stars are providential. Beings and worlds are quarantined from one another. The quarantine is lifted only for those with sufficient self-knowledge and judgment to have safely traveled from star to star. - Carl Sagan

WhatsApp: Don't worry, Charl is fine... An ear infection has turned nasty, but we are in good hands. We visited a doctor at the munic hospital last night for a series of blood tests to make sure the fever was not something else. Today we saw the ENT specialist. Have a slew of meds and Charl spent the rest of today in bed. May stay another day or two if need be. Visit to hospital interesting...
We're still in Bekwai, though hope to depart tomorrow. Charl was burning up, but his temp dropped yesterday. Today he still feels "pap", but better. Photo is our breakfast omelette between sweet bread. Two sandwiches each for R12 total. Coffee in pink plastic mugs served at a wooden table under a pavement tree. Had to evict the chickens from the benches before sitting. Bekwai is one of the few relatively attractive small towns in Africa, a result of colonial era buildings. Were running out of cash, but luckily found a bank here from which we could draw. Met a white missionary at the ATM. No escaping religion in Ghana. Giant billboards compete by offering "31 days of fasting and prayer" or "6 days of supernatural visitation". Almost every TV channel carries only evangelical offerings. The hospital form required we state Charl's religion. My answer of "atheist" generated some shocked discussion.
Hospital and recuperate days.
