1 August, Van
Bahar Otel 60TL (negotiated down from 70TL)
We began our day with a delicious
breakfast, something on which Van prides itself. The usual culprits, just more
so. Sliced tomato and cucumber, and olives both black and green; a variety of
cheeses white and yellow, strongly flavoured; a tzatziki variation; local honey
with crushed nuts; fried eggs and salami; accompanied by crusty bread and tea.
In search of a breakfast spot, we encountered some remnants from yesterday’s
rioting: wisps and whiffs of tear gas still choking the air, and all the
windows at the Burger King smashed, the staff holding a meeting in their
courtyard garden. Otherwise a day for getting the laundry done, updating the
blog, replacing four more spokes on Charl’s back wheel, planning the route
forward, and resting.
