14 May, Çanakkale
Koç Pansiyon 70TL (negotiated down from 88TL)
Today we rested. Charl is sleeping long recuperative hours,
and his sleep is contagious! In between sleeps, we visited the hospital in
search of an English-speaking doctor for a second opinion on Charl’s very
painful shoulder. “Soft-tissue damage”, the orthopaedic surgeon assured us,
which can take several weeks to mend. He also told us we can remove the
stitches on Charl’s head on day 10. So while Charl is physically unhappy still,
we are at least feeling less strained emotionally; not being able to
communicate with one’s medical team is stressful. We like Çanakkale, situated
on the coast where the Dardanelles strait is at its narrowest. It is lively
with students and pubs and shops and restaurants. On the waterfront is the
Trojan horse used in the movie Troy
and donated subsequently to the town. We dined on delicious pizza, light and
fresh, in a pizza place where you could order all your carbs on one plate:
pizza, chips and rice!
