En route Bagan on Charl’s birthday…
We spent an hour or so being shown how palm
juice is collected from the toddy palm, fermented to form palm wine or
distilled to form a very strong drink. It is also used to make jaggery, a
delicious sweet that is particularly good with a handful of sesame seeds.
