2007 Biking Burma
Bagan…
During its heyday as Burma’s capital
in the early 11th century, 13,000-odd pagodas and monasteries were built here.
To this day, merit is gained for one’s next incarnation via the building of
religious monuments. Today 2,217 pagodas remain standing and recognisable.
Quite an amazing sight – especially if one climbs the steep stairs to the top
of a pagoda and looks out over the vast plain on which the temples sit.
Although we loved what we saw, we had a
similar response to that in Egypt
last year. Saddened by the outrageous misallocation of talent and money.
