Biking Africa
This was the first time Charl and I had set out to cycle a continent as opposed to a country. Not only had we arguably chosen the second toughest continent to bike (after Antarctica), we had chosen the second largest (after Asia).
On Friday, 1 March 2019, we departed Cape Town (South Africa) for Casablanca (Morocco). 21 west coast countries (and around 16,000km) link the two cities; 22 if you count Western Sahara as independent.
We hoped to cycle through all the coastal countries EXCLUDING Equatorial Guinea (though in the end we were denied visas for the Democratic Republic of Congo and Nigeria), and to include a tiny smidgeon of one non-coastal country, Burkina Faso (Land of Upright (Honest) Men).
Below are the flags of the countries we cycled, though Covid brought us to a halt just after we entered Morocco.
