25-27 May 2023, Chefchaoun, 9.61km
Dar Besmellah R252 [DH134]

We are in Chefchaouen, Morocco's "blue city", also known as the "blue pearl", for reasons my photos will make obvious.
Less than 10km link Derdara where we slept last night, and our accommodation in the Chefchaouen medina. Around 5km were a climb through forested hills, most of it manageable in our lowest gear.
Once in the city we had to veer off the main road and into the medina. As this is built on hills, the narrow alleys are often in fact staircases, some short, some long. I don't know exactly how many stairs we had to manhandle our loaded bikes up; it was not a lot, but it was way too many!
We are spending three nights in the Dar Besmellah hostel. There was a short flight of stairs to the hostel door, and another two flights inside to our room and a place to store the bikes. For these we could at least unload the bikes before poor Charl carried them up three flights. Luckily our host carried most of our bags up the internal stairs.
How do you know you are staying in a youth hostel? There is a sign in reception that reads If the music is too loud, you are too old. So far, no music, loud or otherwise.
The first two photos are of the hostel...

We walked the streets after our shower in search of lunch, and again in the evening in search of dinner. What an extraordinary place this is. More tomorrow…
