A lazy day in Grand Bassam. We lunched well at a place on the lagoon on barbecued fish and spicy salad, and dined well on pizza at a charming place in the old French Quarter.
In between, we visited a statue commemorating a yellow fever epidemic that caused the French to move their capital inland from Grand Bassam.
Our host, in the process of adopting a boy horribly abused by his father, came home after lunch with the distressing news that the boy had fallen at school and broken his arm. They had to wait for the doctor to come from Abidjan before he could be operated on…
