Daily blog Sleep Eat Routes
Traveling in a third-world country is the closest thing there is to being married and raising kids. You have glorious hikes and perfect days on the beach. You go on adventures you would never try, or enjoy, alone. But you also can't get away from each other. Everything is unfamiliar. Money is tight or you get robbed. Someone gets sick or sunburned. You get bored. It is harder than you expected, but you are glad you didn't just sit home. - Meg Jay

6 November 2019, Elmina to Takoradi, 67.4km
Asempa Hotel 120GHC (R343)

WhatsApp: We're in Takoradi, a very hot 70km from Elmina. Tonight plus two more sleeps before we cross into Ivory Coast. Vastly irritated with our overpriced hotel. Dirty headboard and curtains. Pillow covers discolored and do not actually cover the pillows. Curtain ends hanging from broken hooks. Receptionist cannot get us connected to the wifi and had to be asked to supply a towel (in Africa you get one towel only per room). She forgot to turn on our hot water and though she switched on our TV, it was only during an engagement with her about the wifi that I saw a sign behind her desk about DSTV. When I asked about it, she said she would come and connect it. Really half-hearted service compared to our considerably cheaper Elmina hotel where the staff simply could not do enough for us. The poster oke does not seem to be suffering from insecurity, does he?
