One front hub, one new rim, 18 spokes and R1,600 later, Charl’s bike, thanks to Alpha Beta Cycles in Kimberley, is ready for the road. After breakfast this morning, our kind host Joppie drove Charl and his two wheels the 56km to Kimberley, ran some errands while Alpha Beta went to work on them, and drove him back to pretty Kipepeo in Boshof. Joppie and Susan have lived in Boshof for just over four years and are amazingly entrepreneurial. They offer seven en suite rooms to guests (often filled by consultants and sales people and family members of those living locally in accommodation too small to host guests; and are building three flatlets on their property for long-term rentals, out of prefabricated, innovative materials.
I spent the day revising our route which had included a 74km stretch of gravel road - more than we can cope with yet. So tomorrow we cycle, not to Petrusburg, but to Kimberley…
