Hertzogville Guest House R400
We have been extraordinarily lucky with the weather. We were expecting searing temperatures, but on the whole our entire week has been cooler than anticipated. It poured with rain throughout last night (the farmers will be thrilled) and was cool enough to sleep under a duvet. This morning we awoke to a damp world, but no rain - cloudy again with a chill wind blowing either on our backs or from the right. It was only on occasion when the sun broke through the clouds that we could feel the heat waiting to pounce. Which it did shortly after we arrived in Hertzogville…
We are staying at the very charming Hertzogville Guest House near the show grounds, owned by Santa who, seeing the state of exhaustion in which we arrived, drove Charl to the shops to pick up supplies for our dinner tonight - so kind and generous. We have a large self-catering apartment, dsTV, wifi and use of the pool - what a luxury.
Our day was plagued with more climbs than we wanted, and bike issues. Three of Charl’s back spokes have snapped, and his gerrymandered ball bearing solution is causing the front wheel to wobble unpleasantly. He is out in the garden now, trying to resolve the issue, but we may need to use our day off on Monday to get the bike to a decent bike shop, perhaps in Kimberley…
