Anatolia Pansion 70TL (negotiated down from 80TL)
Like most museums, the Antalya museum served today to highlight my
ignorance ... and my lousy memory! The museum focuses on local history, but there
are such rich pickings in the surrounding hills, that the displays are
impressive. We particularly enjoyed the statuary excavated from nearby Perge –
Roman era works in marble, some copies of earlier Greek statues by well-respected
sculptors, amongst them Zeus, Diana, Apollo and Aphrodite. We were also
fascinated by the large terracotta burial jars from the Bronze Age. After a
surfeit of intellectual stimulation, we strolled along the water front to
photograph the beach we had swum at yesterday, had an early dinner, and later
watched the sun set over the cliffs beside the old city harbour.
