9 June, Çavdir to Korkuteli, 66km
Belediye Oteli 50TL (breakfast included)
“Some days are diamonds, some days are
stones.” Today was a mixed bag. We are in mountainous country making for more
climbs than my fitness level can cope with (bear in mind that just six weeks
ago climbing a single flight of stairs would leave me breathless). In addition,
for most of the eight hours it took us to travel 66km, we cycled a rough road surface,
essentially gravel held together by tar. Each multi-faceted stone is a hiccup
under your wheels, each hiccup a tiny jolt through your body. Slow and tiring!
On the plus side, we cycled a cool, misty morn through hills and valleys populated
by tall slender poplars, their creamy trunks a contrast to the surrounding
greenery. Cycled along roads edged in wild flowers growing in happy confusion
in orange and blue, purple and mustard. And we had one steep, long, exhilarating
downhill run that left my hands tingling from being stretched to the limit
between handlebar and brakes.
